The panel is uncradled, and is flat and stable. It appears to be formed of 3 vertical planks, and there is visible retouching along the joins where they have shifted over time. The paint surface is relatively clean, and the varnish clear and even. Certain areas of the paint surface appear fairly worn, for example the Virgin's robes, and the network of craquelure appears more pronounced in places, most notably the Virgin's face. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings, as well as further spots scattered throughout, and two more concentrated areas, one in the Magi's temple, furthest left, the other in the Virgin's foot, both approx. 4 x 2 cm., as well as a circular, old restoration in the kneeling figure's head. In overall fair condition. Recto: the paint surface is quite dirty, appears worn fairly worn throughout,and there are visible retouchings throughout, most notably in Elizabeth's robes. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these, and reveals the retouching to comprise of two campaigns, the older fluorescing light, and the newer fluorescing dark.
