Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. A few original casting joints are visible, including at the proper left arm and both thighs. There are a few original bronze patchings, including to the proper left inner leg. There are a few nicks and scratches, in particular to the back on the proper left side. There is rubbing to the lacquer patina at the high points. There are two metal dowels to the buttocks with which the bronze slides into the base.

The present model is also known in a marble version which has been published as circle of Adriaen de Vries (circa 1556-1629) on account of a compositional similarity to the Christ in Distress in the Liechenstein collection (inv. no. SK515).
