Overall the condition of the ivory is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, with particular dirt in the crevices. The ivory is composed in sections, and original, stable open joints are visible at the shoulders. There is stable splitting to the ivory, consistent with the material, including some slightly open vertical splits to the body and the globe. There are a few nicks and scratches, including to the globe and to the Child's proper left hip, back, and buttocks. There is a loss to the top part and the point of the flag in the Christ Child's hand. The staff of the flag is probably later and it detaches from the Child's hand. The condition of the wood base is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. It is composed in sections, and slightly open joints are visible. There is some warping to the wood and some very minor stable splitting. There is a minor loss to the wood at the back right corner of the top edge. The relief figure on the base is loose.
