  • faintly incised to the reverse: Thiess. and with an old label to the reverse inscribed in ink: No1346 / A. OLKN. / V. YKRB and with remnants of another label inscribed: Ih.
  • ivory, in a gilt and ebonised wood frame
  • ivory: 12cm., 4¾in.frame: 22.5 by 20cm., 8 7/8  by 7 7/8 in. 

Condition

Overall, the condition is very good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor stable splitting to the ivory, consistent with the material, including to the bottom edge and to the Child's arm. There is some yellowing to the ivory at the back. There is evidence of past worming to the wood frame, in particular to the top edge. There are minor losses to the wood frame, in particular to the gilt wood on the bottom right. There is wear to the gilding throughout.
