Condition

The panel is a fragment of a large chest. As such, there are some losses, in particular to the locking mechanism at the centre, which would have slotted into the lid. Otherwise, the condition of the wood is good, with some wear and minor dirt to the surface, consistent with age. There is stable splitting to the wood, consistent with material. There are slightly open splits and chips to the wood, particularly at both sides. There is a pin on the left side where it may have connected to the other panels of the chest. There is minor evidence of past worming. There are two modern brackets to the back for reinforcement. There are some paint marks and remnants of an old label to the back.
