Condition

The canvas is lined, and appears slightly pressed as a result. There are two thin scratches running horizontally of about 4 in. long, one at right, below the sitter's ear, and the other at left, on the sitter's upper arm. Some craquelure that is stable is on top left quadrant. What appears to be a spot of old repair is at center left, next to the beard. A small spot of paint loss is on his chest at center left, and a few smaller ones that appear to be strengthened on the background. Under UV these fluoresce, as well as other small spots of retouches scattered on the sitter's body. Further reading is impeded due to the milky varnish. Offered in a gold painted frame mimicking marble.
