Condition

The panel is cradled and appears to be comprised of three vertical boards with a possible thin 1in. wide board between the left and center panel. The painting presents a striking figure, with preserved details as seen with the ruff. A thin scratch that is less than 1in. long is at left of the sitter's head. Two small spots of inconsistency on the surface of the paint are on the sitter's shoulder at left and the other at right. Under UV areas of retouching associated with the vertical joins fluoresce. Further smaller spots of retouches that are not too distracting are scattered on the left side of the face and throughout the black shirt. The painting can hang in its present state and is offered in a simple, ebonized frame with a thin inner gold liner.
