拍品資料及來源

Based on the left wing of Gerard Dou's triptych: An Allegory of Art Training, a painting that was lost under dramatic circumstances, in 1771, when a shipment of pictures recently acquired from the Gerrit Braamcamp collection by Catherine the Great, sank off the coast of Finland, en route to St. Petersburg. The fact that present work is also dated 1771 suggests that Laquy must have had  access to Dou's triptych in the months leading up to its acquisition by the Russian Empress.  As Robert-Jan te Rijdt has kindly informed us, several other copies by Laquy after this work by Dou are known: the Rijksmuseum has a copy of the entire triptych, in oils, a large watercolour after the central panel, and two black and white chalk drawings of the side panels1, and a further watercolor copy of the central panel is in a Dutch private collection.
