the music notated by a scribal hand on eight single staves, THE WORDS WRITTEN BY MENDELSSOHN THROUGHOUT, in dark brown ink, including the title "Jagdlied", tempo marking ("Presto"), and text ("Auf, ihr Herrn und Damen schön"), designation ("Tenore 1") by the scribe, with a few small corrections possibly made by the composer, comprising forty-two bars music in all. 1 page, folio (c.30 x 24cm), 16-stave paper, no place or date, [c.1837]

Mendelssohn composed this part song for four solo voices and chorus in November 1837, to honour a bet made earlier that summer with the poet Franz Bernus who wrote the words. It was first published posthumously in 1873, as the first of the Vier Lieder op.120.
