Acquired directly from Jamini Roy in Calcutta circa 1944-1946 by a member of a troupe of actors assigned to ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association) who travelled extensively throughout India, Ceylon and Burma during this time, performing plays for the British troops stationed there.

Condition
There are faint water marks and stains throughout the painting. Small losses to the paint are also visible under very close scrutiny. There are tears to the card, most notably a larger tear in the lower left corner, two tears to the right side, and a small loss to the figure's waist, which have been stabilised, secured and consolidated by a professional restorer and can only be seen upon close inspection. This work is in stable condition for its age and medium.
