This model of lyre shaped case with a sunflower cresting known as a régulateur au tournesol was created by the designer and ornamentalist Gilles-Paul Cauvet before 1766 on the initiative of Jean-André Lepaute. This model is described in his inventories, where the bronzes were stated to be by Etienne Martincourt (fondeur received Master 1762). This type of régulateur enjoyed great success as evidenced by its presence in the stock of Lepaute in 1789: `13..une pendule a secondes a equations faitte avec les bronzes modelés par M. Cauvet qui a la forme d'une lyre et qui est couronné par des tournesols. et le fond de bois plaqué; de cette pendule il n'existe que des bronzes modelés mais elle sera faite et achevée par lesdits neveux, elle sera plaquée en bois d'ébéne ou d'acajou au choix dudit sr Le Paute, les ornaments doré d'or moulu et le mouvement a équations a secondes'. Nicolas Petit I (1732-1791), received Master 1761, worked very closely with the Lepaute workshop and provided many cases to house their dials and movements.
