The model of these candlesticks is visible on a portrait of the diplomat Jean-Gabriel de La Porte du Theil by Joseph Aved (Cleveland Museum of Art inv. 1964-89). Two similar pairs were recently sold at Sotheby's Paris, one in November, the 4th, 2015, lot 358 and the second in April, the 19th, 2016, lot 66.

The design of the present nozzles, different from the common model, might suggest a German work.
