Sale, Christie's London, 12th March 1993, lot 123, where acquired by the present owners

Condition

The panel bows slightly but appears stable. There is some very minor abrasion to the extreme edges, possibly from where the panel is loose in the frame. There is an extremely faint horizontal scratch within the rocks to the left of the composition. There are some very fine lines of reticulation to the doors and windows of the house. There appears to be some very light areas of rubbing to the sky. There is some light surface dirt and spots of studio matter and detritus in places. Subject to the above the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is held in a composite painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
