A KATANA MEIJI PERIOD, DATED 1870 SIGNED GASSAN SADAKAZU
Sugata [configuration]: Hon-zukuri with bo-hi on both sides that are kaki-toshi in the nakago, medium tori-zori and chu-kissaki.

Kitae [forging pattern]: A very tight ko-mokume hada, almost muji hada

Hamon [tempering pattern]: A regular gunome in nioi-deki with many saka-ashi throughout

Boshi [tip]: Midare-komi with short kaeri

Nakago [tang]: Ubu with kesho-yasuri and kuri-jiri, signed on the omote Hanpu Junin Gassan Unryushi Sadakazu Tsukuri Kore and on the ura Meiji San Nen Juichi Gatsu Nichi [1870]

Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 65.2 cm, 25 2/3  in.

Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: 2.1 cm, 5/6  in.

Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 3 cm, 1 2/11  in.

Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Worthy of Preserving] issued by the Nihon Bijitsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword].
