The canvas is not lined. Examination under UV light reveals a thick varnish which prevents the light from fully penetrating. There are, however, three small spots of retouching visible towards the right of the lower edge. There are some minor losses and areas of old frame abrasion to the extreme edges, notably in the upper left and lower right corners. There are areas of fine craquelure running throughout the composition, predominantly in the upper left quadrant and to the pistols, which appear stable. This work is in good overall condition.
