Condition

This work is in very good condition. Executed on pink-colored laid paper. The perimeter of the verso of the sheet has been reinforced with supporting paper. The sheet has been hinged to a mount at two places along the left edge of its verso. The edges of the sheet are unevenly cut. The sheet is lightly time-faded. There are artist's pinholes to the upper right and upper left corners. There is a pindot stain in the upper right corner and minor, scattered foxing throughout. The recto of the sheet is numbered 10 by another hand in the lower right corner.

This work is a study for the left-most woman forking hay in the painting Fenaison à Eragny painted in 1901 (see fig. 1). The artist executed a further version of this painting in détrempe estampillé in the same year.
