Condition

Very good condition overall with minor wear to the patina and surface dirt, particularly in the crevices, consistent with age and handling. A lighter strip is visible to the patina on the terrace, probably from a removed tape. Good cast, very detailed, with a nice chiselling visible all over the body of Eros.

拍品資料及來源

The composition of this bronze, slightly in contraposto, is inspired by the Antique and tends towards a relaxation of the lines. It reminds the work of the Franco-Flemish sculptor Corneille van Clève, famous for his small format bronzes for private collectors. The magnificent chasing visible on this bronze, especially on the plumage of the wings, and the movement of the drapery wrapped around the arm of Eros are reminescent of the group of Leda and the Swan by van Cleve (Louvre, inv.n ° RF 4753). A bronze of the same model was sold by Sotheby's Paris, 4 November 2015, Lot 389 (18.750 EUR). REFERENCE BIBLIOGRAPHIQUE:
