the tall ovoid body finely potted with three ribs encircling the upper body and supported on a flared foot, applied at the shoulder in high relief with a powerful dragon with long sinuous body coiled around the sides in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl', poised with mighty paws set with outstretched talons gripped to the surface, set with ferocious gaping jaws, bulbous eyes and long horns, the body carved with scale pattern and flaming mane, the domed cover surmounted by a bird-form finial, covered all over in an even celadon-green glaze, the unglazed footring and mouth rim burnt russet-brown in the firing

Condition
This jar and cover is in good condition, but there is damage and loss to the right horn at the end of the snout of the dragon. are two firing cracks runnning from the interior of the rim of the cover (which are visible to the exterior). There is also a minor manufacturing flaw/ommission to 2.5cm by 3mm area of the centre of the interior of the cover. There are also some glaze cracks running through the body and head of the dragon. There is a minfor frit to the base of the bird finial to one side and damage to its beak.

據朱湯生述， 此類器在龍泉青釉器中當屬至臻，載於< Chinese Celadons>，《Arts of Asia》，11-12月，1993年，頁62。本罐青釉瑩潤豐厚，日人尤其鍾愛，曰之為占青，此類器獲奉為龍泉瓷匠之傑作，釉料上乘無瑕，造詣超卓。 比較一帶蓋例，出自三藩市亞洲藝術博物館Aavery Brundage收藏，圖見Mary Tregear，《Song Ceramics》，倫敦，1982年，圖版286；另一例出自Charles Russell及H.M. Knight收藏，售於倫敦蘇富比1960年7月12日，編號147，後易手於1980年7月15日，編號75；另一例出自倫敦Eskenazi，圖載於朱湯生，前述出處，頁61,，圖1（左），售於倫敦蘇富比2006年11月8日，編號53。比較一帶蓋例，現存於印第安納波利斯藝術博物館，曾展於《Beauty and Tranquility: the Eli Lilly Collection of Chinese Art》，印第安納波利斯藝術博物館，印第安納波利斯，1983年，圖版78；另比一例，尺寸相近，蓋呈拱形，鳥型頂鈕，出自Warren E. Cox收藏，曾展於《Chinese Ceramics in Chicago Collections》，Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art，西北大學，埃文斯頓，伊利諾伊，1982年，頁35，編號19，兩度售於紐約蘇富比，先後為1944年5月24日，編號53及 2007年3月19日，編號138；第三例出自Carl Kempe收藏，售於倫敦蘇富比2008年5月14日，編號312。
此類罐多為成對，左飾青龍、右飾白虎，倫敦大英博物館收藏一例，出自大維德爵士收藏，載於Margaret Medley，《Illustrated Catalogue of Celadon Wares》，倫敦，1977年，圖版IV，編號36，作者認為或曾用於盛載香油。
