  • 16 printed and manuscript items in Spanish and Latin relating to Mexico and the Order of Friars Minor, bound together in one volume. Various places: ca. 1640-1680

16 parts in one, both printed and manuscript, folio (11 3/4 x 8 in.; 300 x 203mm). Many leaves with contemporary annotations. Full contemporary vellum, manuscript title to spine, top and bottom edges branded ("SF"); vellum stained, some wrinkling, remnants of ties, lower cover with closed tears and some loss.

1. Urban VIII (Maffeo Barberini). Motus Proprius Sanctissimi...In quo Commissarii Prouinciales Indiarum, ad Capitula Generalia Ordinis Fratrum Minorum conuenientes, suis Custodibus in labore, & præmio æquales declarantur. Rome: Ex Typographia Reuerendæ, 1642. Single folio sheet, woodcut pontifical arms, figures of Saint Peter and Paul, and initial, wax seal to lower left margin, written recto and verso in contemporary hand; long closed tear repaired with tape.

3. Urban VIII. 'Breve Sanctiss...in quo Commissariis Generaliibus Indiarum prohibetur ne antequam visitentur ab illis partibus decendant'. Rome: Ex Typographia Reuerendæ Cameræ Apostolicæ, 1641. Single folio sheet, woodcut pontifical arms, figures of Saint Peter and Paul, and initial, wax seal to lower left margin, written recto and verso in contemporary hand; closed tear to top margin and title, some minor marginal dampstaining.  

4. "Dilecto Filio Ildefonso Salizanes, Ministro Generali, Ordinis Fratrum Minorum Sancti Francisci de Observantia nuncupatorum". Folio, 1 leaf, contemporary annotations in brown ink. A passage related to the Order of Friars Minor. 

5. "Resumen de la razones que tiene la Religión de S. Francisco para que no se revoque el Breve Apostólico en cuya virtud el Reverendísimo Padre Fr. Alonso Salizanes, Obispo de Oviedo continua en su govierno hasta la celebración del Capítulo general proximo". N.P.: N.D. 6 leaves, historiated woodcut initial; some foxing. 

6. "Pro Franciscanæ Religionis suo Generali Ministro Reverendisimo Patri Fratri Ildelphonso Salizanes, Ovetensi Episcopo electo & confirmato, debita obedientia".  Court of Madrid: 1669. Folio, 16 leaves, woodcut initial; some foxing. 

7. "Por la obediencia de la Religion de S. Francisco à su Ministro General el Reuerendissimo Padre Alonso Salizanos, electo, y confirmado Obispo de Ouiedo, contra la inobediencia del Prouincial, y Difinitorio de la Prouincia de Castilla de la misma Orden". Court of Madrid: 1669. Folio, 14 leaves, woodcut initial; some minor foxing and soiling. 

8. "Por la causa de S. Francisco Verdad...", folio 10 leaves, written recto and verso, of manuscript text. 

9. "Por el Obispo de la Puebla de los Angeles, su Iurisdicion y Dignidad". Folio, 11 leaves, woodcut initial; minor foxing. 

10. "Manifestación de la indemnidad del informe por el Procurador general de San Francisco, de que el Obispo de la Puebla no pudo rotular al padre guardian de Topoyango, por incurso en las censuras del canon: Si quissua dente Diabolo". [Madrid: ca. 1670]. 4to, 30 leaves, Large decorative woodcut initial, contemporary manuscript annotations in ink; minor foxing and dampstaining.

"Este es un traslado bien, y fielmente sacado de un privilegio concedido pot la Catholica Reyna Doña Juana en dos de Abril del año possado de 1510, en favor de los hermanos de la Orden del Serafico Padre San Francisco, para que sean essentas las casas de los dichos Hermanos de huespedes...mandado guardar pro sic provisiones reales de sus magestades del emperador don Carlos, y don Felipe II". [Madrid: 1670]. Folio, 7 leaves, woodcut initial; toned, lower margin of first leaf shaved. 

12. "Provision Executorial, Dada Por Consulta de el Rey nuestro Señor Don Carlos Segundo, e su Real Consejo, ainstancia de el Padre Fray Antonio Navarro..." i leaf, woodcut intial; contemporary signatures in ink; some marginal toning. 

13. "Yo Fray Francisco de San Antonio, Religioso del Orden de N.P. San Iuande Dios, y Secretario General de ella, en estos Reynos de España, y Provincia de las Indians." Folio, 4 leaves, woodcut initial; some toning. 

14. "Segundo aviso y copia de carta, remitida de cadiz a esta ciudad de Sevilla, donde da cuenta por extenso, della mentable estrago que en dicha Ciudad causo el Huracan." [Seville: 1661]. Folio, 2 leaves, woodcut initial; old folds.

15. "Por la pretension de los Religiosos Ministros Doctrineros de la Religion de N.P.S. Francisco en el Reyno de la Nueva España." Folio, 12 leaves, woodcut vignette on title; some toning.
