The first issue, prior to the location of New Orleans, of this seminal map: the first to reveal the significance of the Missouri River; the first to provide an accurate delineation of the Mississippi Valley; the first to credibly indicate the expedition routes of Hernando de Soto, Luis de Moscoso Alvarado, René-Robert Cavelier (Sieur de La Salle), Henri de Tonti, and Louis Juchereau de Saint-Denis; and the first to use the place name Texas ("Mission de los Teijas, etablie in 1716").
