Rolex started production on the first GMT Master in 1954, which became popular with transatlantic pilots, especially with the Pan-Am. The popularity was due to the introduction of the GMT-hand and the bi-directional 24-unit bezel, which made it possible to read two time-zones at one glance. The introduction of the GMT-Master II in 1989 brought with it some major changes, most importantly the possibility of individually setting both the hour hand and GMT-hand independently. This gives the wearer the possibility to read three time-zones on one watch. This particular watch bearing the reference 16718 was made around 1993 only four years after the introduction of the 16710.
This piece comes with a complete set and would be a great addition to a collection or equally attractive to someone looking to start off a watch-collection or wanting to find an exciting watch to wear and enjoy.
