Affectionately nicknamed 'Piccolino
' ('little one' in Italian), the Reference 3055, with its diameter of only 30 mm, was advertised as the world's smallest chronograph.
It was produced during two distinctive periods; Firstly during the 1930's, with olive-shaped chronograph pushers, then in the 1950's with rectangular pushers. The present lot belongs to the second series and is particularly attractive thanks to the combination of its pink gold case and black dial.
Reference 3055 is illustrated in Gobbi P., I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 108 – 111.
