Movement: gilt full plate verge, decoratively pierced and engraved winged and masked balance cock, fusee and chain, tulip and baluster pillars, alarm sounding on a bellCase: inner silver case, pierced and engraved band, the back with floral motif and apertures for winding, engraved pastoral scene to the base of the pendant, outer silver case, pierced and engraved band, the back engraved with a calendar for 1699-1722 Dial: silver champlevé dial, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute track, central Arabic alarm disc, blued steel handsDiameter: inner 47.5mm, outer 56mmSigned: movement signed and numbered, cases with makers' mark WS for William Sherwood

Condition

DIAL: The dial in good condition. Some loss of the blacking to the numerals. CASES: in good overall condition, with signs of wear and scratches to be expected, but piercing retains good crisp detail. Engraving to the base of the pendant and the centre of the case back have lost some detail through light polishing. Pendant and bow replaced. The outer with good detail to the piercing also. The calendar to the back has been polished slightly resulting in some loss of detail. MOVEMENT: running at the time of cataloguing and alarm functioning. The watch has not been tested to determine the accuracy of its timekeeping. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and that a service may be required at the buyer's discretion.
