James, William. Autograph note signed, regarding Professor James Young Simpson. 1 page (5 3/4 x 6 1/2 in.; 145 x 166 mm) on paper, written in black ink. Chocorua, New Hampshire, dated "Sept 30" [no year]; signed ("Wm. James"); one or two smudges. "Prof. J.Y. Simpson has probably returned to Edinburgh," James writes. "I have heard nothing of or from him since the Zoological Congress week." William James—brother of Henry James—was a philosopher and psychologist, and the first educator to offer a psychology course in the United States. James Young Simpson was primarily a zoologist, but following the WWI, he was also involved in establishing the Baltic States and Finland as autonomous countries. Jerome, Jerome Klapka. Autograph letter signed to a Mr. Miller in response to a note he sent the writer. 1 page (5 1/8 x 8 1/8 in.; 130 x 206 mm) on paper, written in black ink. Talbot House, Arundel Street, Strand, London, on "Idler Illustrated Monthly" stationery, no date, signed ("Jerome K. Jerome"); one or two tray spots. Jerome was an English writer and humorist, best known for Three Men in a Boat (1889). Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth. Autograph letter signed to a Miss Thurmond(?), agreeing to a request. 1 page (4 1/2 x 7 in.; 114 x 178 mm) on paper in black ink. Cambridge, 14 April 1875, signed ("Henry W. Longfellow"); minor spotting and toning, hole to lower margin, not affecting text. "It gives me great pleasure to comply with your request," Longfellow writes, "and withe best wishes, I am yours sincerely".  Longfellow was one of the five Fireside Poets from New England, and the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
