Puccini, Giacomo
OBSCENE AUTOGRAPH POEM ENTITLED “CACCA DI LUCCA”, SIGNED (“GIACOMO PUCCINI”), DEDICATED TO HIS FRIENDS FROM LUCCA AND MARKED ON VERSO (“DA AFFIGGERE IN VETRINA”, [“TO BE DISPLAYED IN THE WINDOW”])
a poem of eight lines beginning:
Cacca di Lucca è sempre senza pecca
Anche se è fatta in fretta da Baldracca…
2 pages, oblong 8vo, creased at folds, “Per auguri ‘99”
Lucca was Puccini’s home town: he was born there on 22 October 1858.
Similar poems by Puccini survive (for example, the sale in these rooms, London, 6 May 1988, lot 451). It was part of his boisterous personality, not unlike the playful bantering students in Acts I and 4 of La Bohème.
