announcing that he will be returning from France to Germany via Bonn, enquiring if he would be interested in publishing some chamber and piano pieces, which he has recently composed, giving details of the music and asking about the status of the religious works he submitted and when he might receive the proofs 1 page, large 4to, integral autograph address panel, seal tear, postmarked, docketed by the recipient, Paris, 23 January 1832 ...Die Sachen, die ich hier [Paris] und in London bis zum nächsten Frühjahr herauszugeben gedenke und deren Publication für Deutschland ich Ihnen hiemit anbiete, sind: ein Quintett für Streichinstrumente (2 Violinen, 2 Bratschen und Bass, in Stimmen und (wenn Sie wollen) 4-händig arrangirt) ferner ein Heft von sieben oder acht Stücken für Clavier allein, unter dem Titel “Romanzen für’s Pianoforte” endlich vielleicht ein Trio für Clavier, Violine und Violoncell...Werden die drei Kirchenstücke bald erscheinen? An intriguing letter relating to some of Mendelssohn’s earliest publications. Not all the works can be fully identified. The String Quintet in A major (MWV R21) was published by Simrock as Op.18; the Piano Trio is not known. There is no publication of Romanzen für’s Piano. This refers to the Songs without Words, Op.19b. The religious works are Aus tiefer Not, Ave Maria and Mitten wir im Leben, Op.23.
