This work is in overall fair condition. The canvas is painted recto-verso. Examination under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching throughout the recto, primarily towards the lower right corner. There is a line of retouching measuring 5cm. towards the upper right corner and a few minor spots to the legs of both sitters. There are some further strokes of retouching to the extreme edges, notably the upper edge, to address old frame abrasion. There is some shrinkage with associated fine lines of craquelure throughout and a small spot of pigment loss to the left of the lower edge. The verso shows no sings of retouching under UV light. The paint has been thinly applied and there are some minor losses and fine surface nicks to the pigment in places.
