Pio Monti, Rome Acquired from the above by the present owner
Marisa Volpi Orlandini, Jacques Lassaigne, Giorgio Crisafi, Dorazio, Catalogo Generale, Venice 1977, no. 810, illustrated
“Pictorial experience is by its nature tied to the perception of space through the sensation of 'colour' (light) and 'form' (drawing and composition), which induces in the observer the spatial characteristics as well as the formal and chromatic 'physiognomy of the image’.”
Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the background colour is darker in the original.
Condition: This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection reveals some tiny media accretions in isolated places. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a few areas of fluorescence, which appear to be restoration - one towards the centre of the upper edge, five centimetres from the top, and thirty centimetres from the left edge; one running intermittently towards the left half of the lower edge; and one towards the right half of the lower edge; and a few towards the centre of the lower right edge.
