Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is unlined and well-stretched. The colors are vibrant, and the media layer is stable overall. A faint intermittent line of frame abrasion is present along the extreme edges of the canvas. A two-inch circular isolated area of fine hairline craquelure is present in the right cheek of the boy. Under raking light inspection, a few isolated one- to three-inch areas of very fine spiderweb craquelure become apparent int he lower left quadrant of the work, in the areas of purple pigment, and in the upper left quadrant in the areas of grey impasto. However, all of these areas are stable. Under ultraviolet light inspection, two isolated areas of accretions become apparent at the upper right edge of the canvas, measuring one and two inches in length respectively; strong fluorescence occurs throughout due to the pigments utilized by the artist.
