拍品資料及來源

Born in Indiana, George Deem attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, before he was drafted to the Army. During this time, he was exposed to a lot of major art works that were exhibited in many of the European cities he visited.  Deem is best known for his exploration of the History of Art, by referencing and reconfiguring Old Master works, such as that of Velazquez and Caravaggio. The artist uses modern techniques such as reproduction, repetition, and text to sharply contrast the oeuvre being referenced; historian Charles Molesworth named this process a “Temporal Collage”. Deem has exhibited in many locations, including the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Menil Collection, Houston.
