Arthur Jay Edelman met his beloved wife of 66 years, Theodora, while studying at Sarah Lawrence College through the G I Bill. Shortly after graduation, the couple joined Teddy’s family leather tanning business. Here they met Andy Warhol, when he was a talented, young graphic designer working for the company, who would become a lifelong friend.   Warhol constructed ‘Strawberry Shoe’ using two of his signature practices, the use of the blotted line to create the shoe and the use of repetitive image through the mode of stamps with the strawberries. Warhol’s rubber stamps were produced by one of his studio assistants, who worked from Warhol’s line drawings. Warhol’s intent on repeating visual imagery through the stamp prefigures his groundbreaking silkscreen process, which ultimately became his trademark practice. The stamp also plays a significant role in Warhol’s early Pop paintings.
