Nutt was a founding member of the 1960s Chicago Surrealist movement, the Chicago Imagists, known for their disregard for the New York art trends of Pop and Minimalism. Nutt’s use of grotesque and surrealist figures makes this work particularly representative of the style. Nutt has featured in many exhibitions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the 1972 Venice Biennale.
