Condition

This work is in excellent condition overall. The sheet is hinged verso to the mat intermittently along the top and vertical edges. The top and bottom edges of the sheet are deckled and there are artist pinholes in all four corners as well as intermittently along the left and right sides of the sheet. There is a soft undulation throughout the sheet, most noticeable along the left and right edges. Framed under glass.

"The suggested 'clothes' are poetic, sensual...they resist the erotic and seductive aura of the reserved but admittedly articulated femininity in Dumas' work. Boogaard's intervention leads the watercolors' process of abstraction back into the personal, human image of expression. A kind of 'round dance' emerges. Seen in their entirety, the small series of paint-overs are like a fantastic performance." Tilman Osterwold, "Water-colors as Physiognomies," in Exh. Cat., Städtische Galerie Ravensburg, Marlene Dumas: Watercolor - Wet Dreams, 2003, p. 38
