Condition

This work is in excellent condition overall. The sheet is hinged verso to the mat intermittently along the top edge. The top and bottom edges of the sheet are deckled and there are artist pinholes in all four corners. There is a soft undulation along the left edge of the sheet. There is scattered errant pigment in the margins around the figure, particularly along the left side, inherent to the time of execution and artists' working methods. Framed under glass.

"Two independent artistic worlds encounter each other in the collaborative work of Bert Boogaard and Marlene Dumas...Bert Boogaard's paint-overs expand the nude watercolor painted by Marlene Dumas, whose monochrome elements are intermixed with the fluidity of the watercolor paints, into something colorful, ornamental, choreographic. His colors – his complexly calculated color forms constructed with stencils – clothe the female figures." Tilman Osterwold, "Water-colors as Physiognomies," in Exh. Cat., Städtische Galerie Ravensburg, Marlene Dumas: Watercolor - Wet Dreams, 2003, pp. 37-38
