Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The edges of the board are taped. There is light evidence of handling along the edges including a pinhole in the lower right corner. Under close inspection, light vertical cracks are visible throughout, all of which are stable, and a faint drip accretion is visible in the lower left corner. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, a ¼-inch horizontal area along the bottom edge fluoresces buyt does not appear to be the result of restoration. Framed.

"Characteristic of Thiebaud's realism is an underlying abstract structure. It is this deceptively simple sub-surface architecture which exposes his subjects in an almost naked isolation... This apparent simplification of design reveals the artist's intense drive to get to the fundamental nature or essence of things. The result is an extreme confrontation with objectivity."
