Galerie Durant-Dessert, Paris Acquired from the above by the present owner in 1998
“Let us say that, since the artist speaks from within his characters, from within the material, that is, rather than conversing with his character or with the material, he approaches closer to the material itself of the majority of men: if he is an artist, he is more human, more one with the material.”
Pier Paolo Calzolari cited in: Exh. Cat. Bologna, Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Bologna Villa delle Rose, Pier Paolo Calzolari, 1999, p. 56.
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly deeper and fails to convey the textured surface of the feathers.
This work is in very good and original condition. All collaged elements are stable. Very close inspection reveals some light wear in places along the edges. There is some light discolouration in isolated places, which is in keeping with the work's natural ageing process, and a further spot of light discolouration to the centre of the lower edge. Close inspection reveals some minute and unobtrusive stains to the lower half of the composition. All other irregularities are in keeping with the artist's working process and choice of media.
