Condition
Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals some light handling marks and a few faint spots of media accretion in places. Very close inspection reveals some faint drying cracks to the joints between the protruding elements and the ground. Further close inspection reveals a tiny dent in the upper right quadrant, with an associated small network of faint cracks and a small chip to the tip of the lower left protruding element. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

“There is no image, no form. The relief has no very sure material existence. Instead it seems dissolved in the space and light around it. It becomes a kind of white mould into which light seems to imprint its natural rhythm; it bears the traces of each slight transformation as clean morning light changes to plain afternoon light and later to elusive evening light. It is not there to tell us anything but to return, amplified what we bring to it. It shares our natural space and reflects our life in a code of shadows” (Guy Brett, Camargo, London 1966, n.p.).
