Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is slightly lighter and brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There are some faint superficial scratches in places and some light accumulation of dust in the recesses as well as some isolated spots of oxidation. Close inspection reveals some burnishing to the protruding elements and corners.

"I’m not going to invent some new shape... I was more interested in the reconfiguration of and repositioning of relatively known, simple geometric forms. As long as the work was bound up by architecture or predicated on architecture, you know, it would only have limited possibility. I wanted to overcome that" (Michèle Gerber Klein, ‘Joel Shapiro’, BOMB Magazine, No. 109, Fall 2009, online).
