This chandelier's design is inspired from the model by the notorious André-Charles Boulle, ébéniste to Louis XIV. The original design by Boulle is known as "chandelier with satyrs heads," and features both female busts and satyr masks. The closest parallel to the present lot is a chandelier by Boulle in a Swiss private collection, dated circa 1715 (illustrated in Ottomeyer, H. and Pröschel P., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p.54, fig., 1.6.10 & Vol. II, p. 507, fig. 26). This form, with female busts appears on other chandeliers attributed to Boulle, including one in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection (inv. no. 2013.238.2).
