  • 65.5cm. 25¾in high
3½-inch silvered dial signed Thomire et Cie A Paris, the movement with anchor escapement and silk suspension, outside count wheel striking on a bell, signed on the backplate Viel aine, the case applied with finely cast and chased caryatid, mask, shell, foliate and fruit mounts with matte and burnished gilding 

Condition

Dial and hands in good condition with a few marks and scratches. Movement is complete but would benefit from a clean and service. The case in generally very god condition throughout and retaining the original gilding, some old minor scuffs, marks and verdigris and would benefit from a light and sympathetic clean. With a pendulum but no winder.

Pierre-Philippe Thomire founded the firm of Thomire et Cie and became one of the most important French bronziers of the late 18th and early 19th Century. He retired in 1832 and died in 1843 although his firm continued until 1850.
