The flat-chased decoration follows a pattern used by Martin-Guillaume Biennais on a four-piece lunch set at the Musée du Louvre, 1958 cat. no. 290, pl. LXIV.

Rene Bry opened his workshops in 1937 in Rue St. Anne and later moved to Avenue de L’Opera. In 1944, he opened a shop at 15 Rue de la Paix, selling high end jewelry including their gerbe de blé line. The business continues today.
