The monogram and coat of arms on the cover are those of John Henry Davies, c. 1864-1927, wealthy brewery owner, who with partners took over in 1902 and made  famous Manchester United Soccer Team, moving it into the first Division and changing its colors from white and navy to red, white and black. He purchased Bramall Hall in 1925. Bramall Hall at Stockport, near Manchester, is a large Tudor half- timbered house with origins in the 14th century. It is now a museum and was created a World Heritage Site on August 9, 1966. He married Amy Caterall, niece and ward of Sir Henry Tate.
