Alfred Serre made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1869, and was associated with Barbedienne from 1872.  In the mid 1870s, the partnership began work on a monumental Renaissance style gilt-bronze clock with enameled plaques of Apollo, Diana, Dawn and Twilight, shown at the 1878 Paris Exposition and now in the Hôtel de Ville, Paris.  Serre also created pieces shown by Barbedienne at the Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900.
