  • marked throughout, the six smaller bottle caps apparently unmarked
  • height 9 5/8 in.
  • 24.5 cm
on three panel feet cast with Bacchic putti masks, matched on the supports for the frame, engraved in center with arms, supporters and motto, fitted with eight silver-capped cut-glass bottles with heraldic hippocamp finials

Condition

with some repairs where Bacchic supports join frame, one small glass bottle with chip to rim, the other glass bottles with minor chips/nicks to cut angles, some caps chased through at spots, otherwise good condition

The arms are those of  Westenra, Barons Rossmore, for  Warner William Westenra, 2nd Baron, 1765- 1842, M. P. for Co. Monaghan, Lord Lieutenant 1831-42. The family seat Rossmore Castle was built in 1827 in Gothic taste, extended in 1858. Lord Rossmore and the Shirleys of Lough Fea competed for the largest room I n the county so that the drawing room was extended five times. The castle was demolished after World War II
