拍品資料及來源

The ivory figure of Saint Sebastian in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich, carved by Petel circa 1628-30, has greatly influenced contemporary artists and followers. Five ivory and wood versions are known of this fine masterpiece, in Zurich, Berlin and Kassel museums. The present version, wonderfully carved, resumes the original model with more svelte treatment of the body and a more tragic expression in the face (see K. Feuchtmayer et A. Schädler, Georg Petel, Berlin, 1973).
