Mir Kalan Khan was born at the beginning of the eighteenth century but it wasn’t until the end of his career (1745-75) that he achieved fame. Known for unusually large panoramas and small figures, he liked painting night scenes (for several of these see Beach 2011, p.607-22). It is possible that the current work represents a scene from the Ramayana.
