This late Mughal painting of a European courtesan is adapted from the figure of 'Poetry' from the Seven Liberal Arts series by Cornelius Jacobsz Drebbel (d.1634) after Hendrik Goltzius (an example of the Dutch engraving is in the British Museum, 1963,0110.3).

Similar Mughal versions are in the British Library (India Office Collection, Johnson Album 9, no.14, see Falk and Archer 1981, p.156, no.326) and the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. no.IS.259-1952).
