comprising four sections, each worked in repoussé, with enamelled details, set with turquoise, pearl and colourful stones, in bespoke velvet-lined box

Condition

Fragmentary, the sections do not fit together but must have originally belonged to the same object as based on the stylistic similarities. some wear to the surface with minor sections of enamel rubbed, and few stones missing or replaced, the custom velvet-lined box with minor wear as consistent with age, as viewed.

These sections would originally have been fixed to a wooden shaft and mounted as a sceptre or staff. A similar example is illustrated in The Tsars and the East: Gifts from Turkey and Iran in the Moscow Kremlin, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, 2009, pp.48-9, no.17. A comparable example was sold at Christie's London, 26 April 2018, lot 172.
