Peuple nomade, les Karamajong sont à l’origine d’un corpus d’œuvres associant savamment praticité et beauté de la structure. « Une étroite alliance semble unir l’utilisateur et l’objet : l’appui-tête est fixé sur l’épaule ou à la ceinture au cours des transports et parfois tenu à la main. Sa forme générale qui ne présente aucune rupture est déterminée par la volonté de simplification et de dépouillement, le sculpteur ayant réduit la structure à l’essentiel ; celle-ci se caractérise par une surface lisse, vierge de tout décor et par la justesse des proportions qui révèlent un rapport implicite avec le corps » (Falgayrettes, Supports de rêves, 1989, p. 45). A la pureté des formes et la belle patine claire s’ajoute ici le délicat détail de la chaine métallique facilitant son transport.
