In Hartung's painting we find "emotion and thought, instinct and reflection, objectivity and upsurge of subjectivity, logic of construction or alogicity of a primordial condition of nature, everything is summarized in the continuous drive to create with a mind and eye attentive to the resonances of a cosmic breath as well as internal woes, to make it a painting that is charged with emotionality "(Mallé).

In this work Hartung manages to capture something of his "primitive magic" that moves beyond the tangible form and reaches a purely emotional dimension: an intense black, renders the surface mysterious, marking it with dark scratches.
